Holloman AFB Mom Learns the Joy of Teaching Breastfeeding
Although I have only been a breastfeeding peer counselor for a few months, it has become one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had (next to being a mother to two amazing boys, of course!). As a military family and a former WIC mom, I know how reassuring it is to have someone that I can count on for breastfeeding support if I need it, especially when family may not be living nearby. It can mean the difference between breastfeeding and not breastfeeding. When a mom that I have been working with regarding breastfeeding issues calls me to tell me “My baby is doing much better. She is latching on and breastfeeding well, and she has gained 2 lbs since birth! Thank you so much for your help,” then I know I have made a difference. By being a WIC peer counselor, I can share with others my passion about breastfeeding, help moms overcome their breastfeeding “hurdles,” and hopefully continue to make a difference in the lives of our WIC moms and babies.
