New Mexico WIC Participates in the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) offers New Mexico (NM) WIC eligible individuals $30 per year in extra spendable benefits to buy locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs from authorized farmers’ markets, mobile farmers’ markets, and roadside stands across the state.

 

Who’s eligible for WIC FMNP?

Women and children certified to receive WIC Program benefits are eligible for WIC FMNP. 

Where can I get WIC FMNP benefits if I’m a WIC participant?

You can get WIC FMNP benefits from participating local WIC clinics. Ask your WIC staff about Farmers Market benefits.

What do WIC FMNP participants get?

Participants of WIC FMNP get:

  • A choice of the Mobile App or Shopper Card to have benefits added to. 
  • FMNP benefits: $30.00 for each WIC participant, per family.
  • Nutrition information.
  • Helpful tips about how to eat more fruits and vegetables.
  • Useful information about how to prepare and store fruits and vegetables bought at Farmers Markets.

When is the WIC FMNP season?

 The WIC FMNP season Starts July 1 to September 29th, to receive benefits and you can use your benefits from July 1 to November 15.

What can participants buy with WIC FMNP benefits?

Participants can buy local, fresh and unprocessed fruits, vegetables and cut herbs with their WIC FMNP benefits. Local means grown in New Mexico and in bordering counties in Colorado, Texas and Arizona.

Are there items participants can’t buy using WIC FMNP benefits?

WIC FMNP benefits can’t be used to buy:

  • Honey
  • Dried or preserved fruits, vegetables, and herbs
  • Juices
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Baked goods
  • Eggs, seafood, meat, milk, cheese
  • Edible flowers
  • Potted plants or cut flowers
  • Non-food items
